Published in 1849 by T. Nelson and Sons, this collection brings together Sir Walter Scott's celebrated narrative poems—including The Lay of the Last Minstrel, Marmion, and The Lady of the Lake—plus additional verses and a biographical sketch. Scott's work, penned during the Romantic period, masterfully blends adventure and emotion with deep affection for Scottish heritage and landscape. What truly sets this edition apart is its exquisite Mauchline binding, featuring gilt-embossed fern and ivy designs on leather boards with a gilt-tooled spine and gilded page edges. This lavish presentation style was favored by Victorian collectors who treasured both the artistry of fine bookbinding and the timeless poetry within. Scott's verses remain captivating tales of chivalry, history, and romance that shaped how generations imagined Scotland.

Condition:

The volume is in good overall condition. The decorative leather boards show only mild rubbing at the edges and corners, though some wear is evident around the spine extremities. The gilt fern-and-ivy design remains generally bright and distinct, with only minor fading in spots. Internally, the binding is sound, and while the pages exhibit light foxing, particularly near the frontispiece and title page, the text and illustrations are largely clean.
