Bond was no enthusiastic amateur: M.A. from Lincoln College Oxford, Fellow of the Geological Society, Honorary Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects, and author of Gothic Architecture in England, which the architectural press called the most complete illustrated treatise on English church architecture ever published. The cathedral survey covers each building from its Norman origins forward, illustrated with over 200 photographs and ground plans drawn to a uniform scale so buildings can actually be compared. The navy cloth binding with gilt heraldic stamps on both boards and spine is handsome and holds up well. A gift inscription inside dates this copy to the summer of 1950.

[d]Author | Francis Bond, M.A., F.G.S., Honorary Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects
[d]Title | The Cathedrals of England and Wales: Being a Fourth Edition of English Cathedrals Illustrated
[d]Publisher | B. The navy cloth retains its color well with light wear at the spine ends and corners. The gilt heraldic stamping on the boards and spine remains legible and reasonably bright. The text block is tight. Some toning to the paper throughout, consistent with age. The photographic plates are clear. The gift inscription on the front free endpaper is in pencil and ink, dated Summer 1950.
