This late 19th century spelter dog figurine captures the noble character and lifelike detail celebrated in Victorian decorative art. Cast in spelter, a zinc-based alloy finished to resemble bronze, it reflects the era’s fascination with animal portraiture and faithful companions.

The dog stands proudly on a rectangular plinth, its fur finely modeled and expressive, with a collar around its neck suggesting a well-bred house dog of the period. The warm dark patina has aged beautifully, creating depth and texture that evoke the presence of real bronze. Figurines like this were popular mantel or study ornaments in Victorian homes, symbolizing loyalty, protection, and refinement.

A striking piece of English decorative history, it brings timeless charm and character to any interior. Perfect for display on a mantel, shelf, or desk, this antique dog sculpture complements both traditional and modern spaces with quiet sophistication.

Origin: England, circa 1880–1900
Material: Spelter with bronzed finish
Dimensions: 6.5" H x 9" W x 4" D

Condition:

Fair antique condition with age-related wear. There is a crack in the tail, and the tail has some instability due to the brittleness of Victorian spelter. This is a common vulnerability in thin, extended elements on 19th century spelter figures. The tail remains attached but should be handled gently. The bronzed finish shows natural patina, rub-through, and casting seams typical of the period. No other structural issues or repairs noted. Displays beautifully when stationary.
