This is an original late-19th-century Aesthetic Movement silverplate tazza made by the Meriden Britannia Company of Connecticut, one of the most respected American silver manufacturers of the era. Produced between 1885 and 1895, the piece embodies the height of Aesthetic design with its sculptural tri-form supports, classical mask motif on the stem, and delicately etched botanical decoration on the dish. Tazzas like this were created as artistic centerpieces for Victorian dining tables and were often used to present fruits, sweets, or small floral arrangements. Its tall silhouette and architectural lines give it a striking presence, making it an elegant accent for modern styling as well.
Condition:
This late-19th-century Meriden silverplate tazza shows expected antique wear. There is gentle bending to the rim, normal surface scratches, and some soft dimpling in the metal from use. The silverplate exhibits patina throughout, and the pedestal metal is characteristically soft with minor signs of age. The piece remains structurally stable, with all three supports intact and beautifully detailed. Presents very well overall with authentic late-Victorian character.
