2.5" H x 5" diameter

2.5" diameter - Center opening

This antique silver plated stand was crafted in the late nineteenth century by Meriden B Company, one of America’s most significant producers of Victorian decorative silver. Designed to hold a small crystal jar or inkwell, this form was commonly used for condiments such as mustard, jams, pickles, or writing desk inks during the Victorian era. The 2.5 inch interior opening would have originally housed a round cut glass insert that rested securely within the ring.

The sculpted mountain goat perched across the top is beautifully detailed, with curved horns and a dynamic posture that reflects Meriden’s fascination with naturalistic wildlife. Botanical leaf mounts form the base and give the stand elegant height and visual balancing. These sculptural touches made everyday table and desk accessories feel ornamental and theatrical, which was central to Victorian design.

The underside is stamped Meridian B Company along with the model number 212, confirming its American origin and placing its production between 1880 and the company’s absorption into International Silver in 1898. Today the piece displays beautifully as a sculptural object, a standalone decorative accent, or as a holder for a modern glass insert. It brings heritage, charm, and a touch of whimsy to a bar tray, desk, vanity, or styling vignette.

Condition:

This antique stand is in good condition with age appropriate wear. The silver plating shows scattered patina, surface scratches, and small points of plate thinning. There is natural darkening within the inner ring and along recessed areas. The figural goat and leaf supports are secure and retain crisp sculptural detail. The piece stands evenly and presents well with the authentic character expected of nineteenth century silver plate.
