A striking antique carved oak drawer front, salvaged from a grand Renaissance Revival sideboard or cabinet, dating to the late 19th century (c.1870–1900). This richly detailed panel features a lion in profile, scrolling acanthus foliage, and clusters of grapes, all bordered with a classic egg-and-dart molding.
Originally the front face of a drawer, complete with its old lock cut-out, this fragment now stands beautifully on its own as a piece of architectural wall art. The subject matter is symbolic as well as decorative: lions representing strength and guardianship, grapevines symbolizing abundance, and acanthus scrolls recalling the grandeur of antiquity.
Crafted from solid oak and deeply hand-carved, the piece has developed a dark, warm patina over time, highlighting the depth of the carving. Perfect for display as a decorative wall plaque, a collector’s accent, or a unique element in a restoration or design project.
Condition:
Shows age and wear consistent with its history as part of a working drawer. There are surface splits, minor losses to the carving, an old lock cut-out, and wear along the edges, but the panel is stable and displays beautifully. The oak retains a rich aged patina, adding character and authenticity.
