This antique wall-hanging letter rack and key holder dates to the late Victorian to early Edwardian era (c.1880–1910). Crafted from oak, the piece features intricate chip-carved decoration with traditional geometric starbursts and fan motifs, a hallmark of folk carving traditions popular in both Germany/Switzerland and the English Arts & Crafts movement.
Designed with three graduated compartments, it was intended to hold letters, calling cards, or household correspondence. The two hooks at the bottom likely served for keys, a pocket watch chain, or a letter opener, making it both decorative and practical in a period hallway or study.
