The gilt cover still reads AUTOGRAPHS in full Victorian confidence, birds and scrollwork intact on the front board, a blind-tooled floral spray on the back. Inside, the pages stayed almost entirely blank, except for one page a child claimed with a red pen sometime around 1989, letters, a crossed out scribble, and that date written out plain. Call it a hundred and forty years of restraint interrupted by one determined kid. The gilt tooling on the front board and spine remains bright and legible. Interior pages are blank throughout with the exception of one page marked in red ink by a child, letter attempts alongside a crossed out scribble and the date 1989 written plainly.
