This late Victorian English drinking cup is crafted from natural bovine horn and finished with a silver plated rim. Made around 1880 to 1900, pieces like this were carried by gentlemen during countryside outings, sporting events, and hunting excursions. Horn was valued for its durability, light weight, and natural insulation, and each cup developed its own unique pattern and tone during the shaping process. The dark espresso coloration on this example was considered especially refined in the period. The mounted silver plated rim provided both a decorative accent and structural reinforcement to prevent splitting. Today, these cups are collected for their sculptural look and their ties to English field sport culture. They style beautifully on bar carts, bookshelves, and in Ralph Lauren inspired interiors.

Condition:

This cup is in good antique condition with signs of age and use consistent with its late nineteenth century origin. The horn surface shows light surface scratches and subtle handling marks. The silver plated rim has small scuffs and areas of natural wear. The body displays no structural cracks or splits and the form remains stable. Overall it presents beautifully and retains its rich dark tone and polished surface.
