The clock movement and dial are long gone. The cast iron front and the sheet iron cylindrical bezel behind it are structurally sound with no cracks or repairs. There is one small chip to an acanthus leaf on the left side of the front, a clean loss visible on close inspection. The original dark japanned or painted finish has worn substantially across the raised detail, and the exposed iron shows warm rust-brown oxidation throughout, particularly across the back and the interior of the bezel cylinder. This surface is stable and characteristic of aged cast iron. The lettering of the mottos remains crisp and fully legible. The iron hanging ring is present on the reverse and functional with a long nail.
