The brass shows extensive surface oxidation throughout, with mottled dark spotting and areas of dull greenish tarnish across the top and sides. There is verdigris along the apron edges and on the interior. The rear legs and interior frame are iron and show real rust and surface scaling consistent with age and years of hearth use. The hinged top sits very slightly proud at the back edge but is fully functional. The high points of the cabriole legs show attractive wear where the brass has been handled and rubbed brighter over time. All four legs and both ring handles are present and secure. No cracks or splits. No maker's mark was found.
