First, the painted surface on the front is flaking and lifting in places, along the black edge and the red-orange border line, with some paint loss where the lighter ground underneath shows through. This is active flaking, not just soft old wear, so it is a surface that is shedding a little and could continue to. Second, it does not sit perfectly flat. One of the front feet is slightly bent inward, so the piece rocks a touch rather than sitting dead level. On the good side, this is by far the heaviest and most solid of the group, made from a dense wood, and the form and age are honest. The underside shows the plain construction and carries old pencil inscription and stock numbers, which are old markings from the piece's earlier life, not a maker. There is no sign of active woodworm.
